first aid courses

There are spaces available for a First Aid Course on 17 February at Calderstones. The course is free and is provided by the FA to assist the club in renewing its Charter Standard status. If your qualification has already expired or is about to you will need to attend the course. Please contact David Woods for further details and to register for the course.

Academy session at camp hill each saturday at 9am

Can all managers/coaches please offer their assistance to Colin Ravenscroft at the academy sessions at least once during the remainder of the season. The sessions are for children between the ages of 7 and 10 and who are not currently signed to a team. The sessions are an important part of the club and take additional pressure off the separate training sessions of the respective teams within these age groups. Colin and the club will appreciate any help that you can provide. Please contact Colin by phone or email as soon as possible. See below for Colin's contact details:

FA county cup QF - u16's

The Under 16 Woolton Reps team lost their quarter final match 1-0 against Widnes Wolves on Sunday 24 January. The boys were unlucky to lose after hitting the woodwork and having the ball cleared off the goal line a number of times. Although the lads and management team will be disappointed with the result they can be proud of the performance which deserved a better reward.

Fa age appropriate coaching courses

David Woods has recently attended an introductory module for the new FA Age Appropriate courses which have been designed specifically to reflect the role of a coach working with children aged 5-11. It is the start of a process which will lead to a specialist qualification in coaching children and represents a new approach which recognizes the difference between coaching adults and children. The courses will introduce some new ideas although it is comforting to confirm that we are already doing a lot right at Woolton FC.

The coaching modules, which are well presented, will be made available by the Merseyside and Halewood League this year and it is recommended that as many of the club's coaches as possible should attend. Further details will be provided when available.

managers meeting

The next Managers Meeting will be on Monday 25 January at 7.30pm at the Village Inn

COMMITTEE MEETING

The next Committee Meeting will be on Monday 8 February at 7.30pm at Hope University (Taggart Avenue)

Team finances

The Committee strongly recommends that all teams adopt the following as best practice in respect of managing their finances:

  1. Open a bank or building society account in the team's name and operate all financial activities through it
  2. Operate a simple/basic cash book system to show the financial position
  3. The cash book should be available for inspection by parents, committee members etc
  4. Where possible the cash book and account should be operated by a parent/s other than the manager/coach

These recommendations are made purely to avoid any suggestion or accusation of financial irregularities being directed at any individual.

TIDYING UP AFTER TRAINING/MATCH

Can we ALL make sure that when we leave a pitch after training or a match that it is clear of litter and that any equipment is returned to the storage location. DON'T LEAVE IT TO SOMEONE ELSE!!!

REGISTRATION NUMBER

Please note our FA registration number for season 2009/2010 is GYY00613

PARKING at camp hill & simpsons

Do not park on double yellow lines - you are likely to be given a ticket.

If you park on the Simpson Ground side please try to keep the whole of your car on the road. If you avoid parking on the the grass it will help to prevent damage to the tree roots and not tempt the council to protect them by using an increased number of double yellow lines. It will also reduce the traffic to single file and slow it down making the area safer for our children.

Child Protection

Please contact Andy Weighill (Club Welfare Officer) for any enquiries about Child Protection. Coaches who have a Safeguarding Children certificate must renew it every 3 years. The FA will write to you when your certificate expires and the club will contact coaches who need to renew their certificates. Woolton FC will cover the cost of recertification.

unwanted football kit -  PLEASE donate it to kitaid

KitAid is a charity that sends unwanted football kit to children and adults across Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe.  Woolton FC supported KitAid in 2008 and we are doing so again this year.  KitAid are grateful for all donations in good condition – shirts, shorts, socks, shinpads, boots, goalie gloves, balls, single items or full team kits, children’s or adult’s sizes.  If you have anything you would like to donate, please give it to Lance, Ailsa or Andy at the hut.  To find out more about KitAid search for “KitAid” on YouTube or Google or ask Lance, Ailsa or Andy.

Liam CostelloLiam Costello - A Woolton Warrior

One of our boys Liam Costello, a member of the all conquering Woolton Warriors under 12's team, passed away after a tragic accident in Snowdonia in October 2007. Liam had been a club member since he was very young. He was a talented footballer and a charming young man.

We have decided to rename our tournament the Liam Costello Woolton Tournament as a permanent memorial to him. We hope that you will support it.
